Why I Started TFORTRANSITION: Supporting Young People Through Change

Change is a part of life, but for many children and young people, it can feel overwhelming.

Throughout my career, I have worked with children and young people across primary, secondary and specialist settings, supporting those with a wide range of needs, including SEND, SEMH and Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA). One thing I have consistently observed is that periods of transition can have a significant impact on a young person's confidence, wellbeing and ability to engage with education.

Whether it is moving from primary to secondary school, choosing a post-16 pathway, returning to education after a period of absence, or navigating personal challenges, transitions are about far more than practical changes. They are emotional journeys that can bring excitement, uncertainty, worry and hope all at the same time.

Too often, transition support focuses on timetables, buildings and routines. Whilst these practical aspects are important, young people also need opportunities to explore how they are feeling, understand their strengths, build resilience and develop confidence in themselves.

I created TFORTRANSITION because I wanted to provide that space.

TFORTRANSITION was founded on a simple belief: every child and young person deserves to feel supported during times of change. Through small-group programmes, creative activities and meaningful conversations, I aim to help young people develop the confidence, self-awareness and practical skills they need to navigate transitions successfully.

My programmes are designed to help children and young people understand that it is okay to feel nervous about change, whilst also equipping them with strategies to manage uncertainty and recognise their own strengths. By creating safe, supportive environments where young people feel listened to and valued, we can help them approach their next steps with greater confidence and a stronger sense of belonging.

For schools, transition support is not simply about preparing pupils for their next destination. It is about investing in their wellbeing, resilience and future success. When young people feel emotionally prepared, they are far more likely to engage positively with new opportunities and challenges.

As TFORTRANSITION grows, my goal is to work alongside schools, families and professionals to ensure that children and young people receive the support they need before, during and after key transition points.

Every young pers

on has a future worth looking forward to. Sometimes, they simply need the right support to help them take that next step.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I look forward to sharing insights, resources and ideas through future blogs, all with the aim of helping children and young people thrive through change.
